      HBFI Standing on Solid Ground: Practice Ethics for Lactation Consultants Breastfeeding Course is of specific interest to individuals preparing to undertake the lactation consultant (IBCLC) examination, as it provides Ethics CERPs (6 E CERPs applied for), which can be difficult to obtain.  This is a full day interdisciplinary workshop to facilitate collaboration and knowledge translation around the influence and potential impact of the health care professional role within the context of breastfeeding and lactation support. Course hours are 8:45am to 4:00pm. Facilitator: Kathy Venter - RN, IBCLC Participants: Individuals preparing to undertake the lactation consultant (IBCLC) examination (for the first time, or for recertification purposes).  Pre-requisites: Participants should have a good knowledge base of lactaction support, and have already completed several breastfeeding education courses. Ideally, participants will have completed level 1 and 2 WHO/Unicef 20 hour breastfeeding courses.  Objectives: The purpose of this workshop is to explore and discuss the scope of practice and ethical issues surrounding breastfeeding/lactation support and the IBCLC.  Topics covered: IBLCE Code of Ethics IBCLC Scope of Practice Inter-disciplinary roles and relationships Medical-legal responsibilities Confidentiality Informed consent Conflict of interest and the WHO Code Registration is not complete until payment has been received. **Course location is subject to change, within Halton Region. Participants will be notified by email of any changes** FAQs What is your cancellation policy? Halton Baby-Friendly Initiative reserves the right to cancel any course due to under-enrollment, instructor illness, or inclement weather. If a course is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, Halton BFI will attempt to reschedule on the earliest possible date available. Halton BFI is not responsible for any additional costs incurred by attendees due to cancellation or rescheduling. What if I need to cancel my registration? If you need to cancel your registration, please email us as soon as possible. All course cancellations are subject to a cancellation fee. If your cancellation is received 6 or more weeks prior to the course start date, you will receive a 90% refund. 2-6 weeks prior to the course start date, you will receive a 50% refund. less than two weeks prior to the course start date, no refund will be provided. You may also request a one-time transfer to a later course date (if available) by emailing us. However, if you choose this option and are unable to attend the course you transferred to, no refund will be issued. Please note that if a refund is issued, it may take up to 10 business days to process and receive your money back. What if I need to cancel and I added purchase protection when I registered? If you added purchase protection when you registered for the course, then you need to contact FanShield directly for support with your refund.  Is there a discount available for local (within Halton region) attendees? There is no local attendee discount for this course.  Is my registration/ticket transferrable to someone else? Yes, this option is available. Please see next FAQ below for information on changing attendee name. Is it okay if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? Your name must match the name on your registration.You have the option of updating your registration information by logging into Eventbrite or following the link provided on your confirmation email at any time before the event.  Can I update my registration information? Please email us if you need to make any changes to your registration.  Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? You do not need to print your tickets, but please keep your confirmation email handy just in case we need to verify your purchase. How do I get a payment receipt? The order confirmation you receive by email after registering is your official payment receipt. You can also log in to your Eventbrite account to print your order confirmation (this is also your official payment receipt).  Is tuition assistance available? If you are a Registered Nurse in Ontario, you may be eligible for tuition funding from the RNAO. Review the information on the RNAO website for further details. Please note that funding is not guaranteed. Keep the registration confirmation email from Eventbrite - this is your receipt of payment you will need to submit to RNAO.  Are CERPS provided for this course? Yes, 6 L CERPS are provided. You must attend for the full day to qualify for CERPs and obtain your course completion certificate. Is parking available onsite?  Yes, free parking is available onsite! What room is the course held in? You will receive an email approximately 1 week prior to the course start date with details of what room the course is in.  What are the course hours? The course runs from 8:45am to 4:00pm.  Are refreshments/food provided at the course? Morning beverages, and lunch are provided. If you have special dietary requests, please email us. What should I bring with me to the course? Water bottle (water filling station available) Pen/paper Can I bring my breastfeeding infant with me to the workshop? Babies in arms are welcome at the course, however some parents find it hard to concentrate, especially with an older baby. We also ask that if your baby is disruptive that you step outside to calm them down. There is an indoor area outside the classroom you can go to with your baby if needed.
